Obsidian Blades

Among the Aztecs and other Mesoamerican civilizations, obsidian blades served both as weapons and a medium of exchange. Razor-sharp and sourced from specific volcanic regions, obsidian was difficult to obtain and incredibly valuable. Its use extended to trade, ceremonies, and tribute.

Because the blades were fragile yet deadly, they symbolized power and status. They were even more valuable than gold in some areas. It’s a stark reminder that currency can also be dangerous—especially if you accidentally sit on your wallet and slice your pants.
