Extravagant Pet Ownership

In the United Arab Emirates, owning exotic animals was long considered a status symbol. Lions, cheetahs, and other big cats were treated like lapdogs – whether on a walk on the beach or in the passenger seat of a sports car.

But 2017 put an end to the wild luxury: A new law prohibits keeping dangerous animals. Anyone who owns one anyway risks heavy fines or even imprisonment – no matter how noble the animal or the owner may be.
