#38: Duck Eggs

Century eggs are a traditional delicacy, but not all are safe. Some are preserved using lead oxide to speed up the process. Lead builds up in the body and damages the kidneys and brain. Even small doses are harmful over time.

Some eggs may look glossy and fresh but contain dangerous chemicals. Counterfeit versions often appear in low-cost markets with no safety checks. Authentic century eggs use safe curing techniques and are free from heavy metals.
