The Chest Expander Machine
This clunky machine forced users to pull weighted levers attached to cables, supposedly expanding and strengthening the chest muscles. It was popular in bodybuilding gyms before the rise of modern free weights.
The machine’s rigid structure often caused users to overstretch, tearing muscles or damaging joints. Its fixed path of motion didn’t accommodate different body types, leading to injuries. Today’s resistance machines are far more ergonomic and adjustable, making this relic a painful footnote.
