I was scrolling and thinking “Wait. How has no one mentioned Layne Staley yet?” Then saw your comment. Apparently he wasn’t even mentioned at the MTV awards the year that he died.
Kurt Cobain was the biggest dude in the world and commit suicide at his height. Staley withered away for several years until he died. I think it was probably too tragic and depressing to be all over the news.
If you listen to a lot of their songs you can tell that he’s talking about himself. Dirt/Jar of Flies are littered with songs about addiction and dying. Like every single song off Dirt.
