Martha’s initial relief faded

As the minutes ticked by, the wave of relief that had washed over Martha began to drain away, leaving something heavier behind: a gnawing hunger for answers. She sat silently, her eyes never leaving the sealed box. “What was that thing?” she wondered, replaying its movement in her mind over and over. Each time, it seemed more unnatural.

Around her, the team was still busy, but their chatter and footsteps faded into the background. Martha felt a growing sense of isolation, lost in the questions swirling inside her. Finally, she rose from her chair, no longer willing to be a passive observer. There had been a creature in her home—and she wasn’t going to rest until she knew what it was.
