Cooper Festival – Hungary

In the town of Mohács, Hungary, masked men called Busós march through the streets in shaggy fur coats and horned masks, rattling chains and making noise to scare away winter. It’s known as the Busójárás Festival, and it turns the entire village into a pagan-style horror parade.

The tradition blends pre-Christian Slavic rituals with modern-day party vibes. Tourists are often both delighted and creeped out by the spectacle. Drums, dancing, bonfires, and wine all combine to create one heck of a winter goodbye. It’s theatrical, haunting, and 100% WTF.
