As living people lie in caskets, family members carry them through the streets to the sound of funeral dirges. It’s bizarre, moving, and oddly uplifting. While it may seem macabre, the festival is about appreciating life after close calls. And yes, it’s one of the only places in the world where people say “I’m alive!” while inside a coffin.
