Every plane the President flies on is called “Air Force One”

Air Force One might sound like the name of a specific aircraft used by the President, but that’s not exactly the case. It’s really just the designation for whatever aircraft the President happens to be traveling on. So, technically, any plane the President is aboard can be called Air Force One. Similarly, the helicopter the President flies in is referred to as Marine One, and an Army aircraft would be called Army One.

In the naming conventions for various modes of transport used by the President, the word “One” is the most important keyword here. The pilot of the presidential helicopter is even known as Marine Helicopter Squadron One.
