Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (Ireland)
The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, located in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, is a famous rope bridge. The bridge is about 20 meters long and 30 meters above the rocks below – that’s about 9 stories high if you’re thinking in terms of buildings. It’s a popular spot, attracting around 200,000 tourists annually, with approximately 480,000 visitors in 2018.
Weather permitting, it’s generally open year-round, and you can cross it for a fee. Originally used by salmon fishermen, the bridge was once part of a livelihood that saw as many as 300 salmon caught daily in the 1960s. However, by 2002, the catch had dwindled to around 300 per season, and the bridge is no longer used for fishing.
