We Brushed Our Teeth With Crushed Mouse Brains

Today’s toothpaste has a fresh, minty taste, but in ancient Greece and Rome, dental hygiene was far less appealing. They used mixtures of ashes, ground bones, charcoal… and even crushed mouse brains to clean their teeth.

It’s hard to imagine the resulting breath. Although this practice was common, it is one of the ancient rituals that no one wants to see again.
