Reporting the Find

Jake rushed to the nearest police station. “Hi, I need to report… well, I found this car,” he said, fumbling for words at the reception desk.

He hadn’t witnessed a crime. He wasn’t even sure what he’d discovered. But an abandoned vehicle in the woods full of decades-old belongings was alarming enough.

The desk officer raised an eyebrow, but took him seriously. “Where is it?” she asked.

Jake gave the location. “We’ll send a team to check it out,” the officer assured him.

Jake nodded, the baby photo still safe in his pocket—proof of a mystery that wasn’t finished unraveling.
