A Vacation That Never Happened

A small, battered agenda had fallen into the grass. He picked it up and flipped through the handwritten pages.

There were notes of birthdays and appointments, scrawled in fading ink. Then one entry leapt out: “Family vacation for Tom’s birthday,” circled with care, along with a destination.

Jake’s breath caught. That location—it was his hometown.

This car had been headed to his town before vanishing into the woods.
