A lighthearted chat
As Carter eased the truck back onto the road, he decided to strike up a conversation to make the ride feel less awkward. Glancing at the girl, he offered a friendly introduction. “I’m Carter. What’s your name?” His voice was warm but filled with curiosity. The girl, keeping her gaze fixed on the road ahead, answered without much emotion, “I’m Tara.” A brief silence settled between them, the hum of the engine filling the space.
Carter couldn’t help but wonder about her situation. She was so young, and seeing her alone on the roadside just didn’t sit right with him. His curiosity got the best of him. “So, Tara,” he asked carefully, his hands gripping the wheel, “what’s a young girl like you doing all alone out here?”
