Back in the 19th century, dentures made from real human teeth were seen as the bee’s knees for replacing lost chompers, especially for those with deep pockets. After battles like Waterloo, scavengers would collect teeth from fallen soldiers and flog ’em to dentists. These grim souvenirs were known as “Waterloo teeth.”
The thought of rocking a dead soldier’s tooth today is enough to make your skin crawl, but back then it was just another hustle. For the well-to-do, a mouthful of someone else’s pearly whites was better than going toothless.
