Medieval Women Used Moss as Sanitary Pads and Tampons

Menstrual products in the Middle Ages were anything but comfortable. Women improvised sanitary pads with rags or, in poorer areas, with moss. They placed them in basic underwear and offered very little absorption or protection.

Without access to modern hygiene products, these homemade solutions were a necessity. Hygienic? Not exactly. But it was the only option available back then.
