Scarecrow Actor

Some upscale farms and vineyards hire people to act like scarecrows—standing still in the fields dressed in costume, sometimes waving occasionally to spook birds. Unlike mannequins, these human scarecrows can move, shout, or even dance, depending on the bird problem at hand. It’s seasonal work, but very real.

Imagine standing in a field dressed as a Victorian ghost while yelling “BOO!” at pigeons. If that doesn’t scream career progression, nothing does. On hot days, you bake. On rainy days, you stew. But for $15/hour and a tan in weird places, some say it’s worth it—for the stories alone.
